قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ

Asad : Said the most right-minded among them: "Did I not tell you, 'Will you not extol God's limitless glory?'"14
Malik : The most upright among them said: "Did I not tell you to glorify Allah? Why did you not glorify Him?"
Mustafa Khattab :

The most sensible of them said, “Did I not urge you to say, ‘Allah willing.’?”

Pickthall : The best among them said: Said I not unto you: Why glorify ye not (Allah)?
Yusuf Ali : Said one of them more just (than the rest): "Did I not say to you `Why not glorify (Allah)?' " 5613
Transliteration : Qala awsatuhum alam aqul lakum lawla tusabbihoona

Asad 14 This is obviously a reference to their failure to realize that nothing can come about unless the Almighty so wills (verse {18}).

Yusuf Ali 5613 This was not necessarily a righteous man, but there are degrees in guilt. He had warned them, but he had joined in their unjust design.
