| ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَاهُمُ الْوَعْدَ فَأَنْجَيْنَاهُمْ وَمَنْ نَشَاءُ وَأَهْلَكْنَا الْمُسْرِفِينَ |
| Asad | : | In the end, We made good unto them Our promise, and We saved them and all whom We willed [to save],11 and We destroyed those who had wasted their own selves.12 |
| Malik | : | Then We fulfilled Our promise with them: We saved them and those whom We pleased, and destroyed the transgressors. |
| Mustafa Khattab | : | Then We fulfilled Our promise to them, saving them along with whoever We willed and destroying the transgressors. |
| Pickthall | : | Then We fulfilled the promise unto them. So We delivered them and whom We would, and We destroyed the prodigals. |
| Yusuf Ali | : | In the end We fulfilled to them Our promise and We saved them and those whom We pleased but We destroyed those who transgressed beyond bounds. 2672 |

But, however difficult (or impossible) their mission may have appeared to them, or to the world at first, they won through eventually, even those who seemed to have been defeated. Examples are given in the latter part of this Sura, especially in xxi. 51-93. They were delivered from the Wrath which overtook the Unbelievers, as were those with them who accepted Allah's Message and placed themselves in conformity with His Will and Plan. That is the meaning of "whom We willed." |
